Our new favorite barbecue place in townsend. Delicious food, no frills pricing. Friendly staff.

They seemed real busy but managed to get our take-out order to the car in no time. Tasted great!

I wanted to give a 1 star but our waitress was polite and friendly and had refills when needed, our food on the other hand nothing like paying 52.00 to take all your food home for your dogs! We had 2 meals of 1/2 chicken and the chicken was awful and tasted like it was cooked in the ashes of a campfire! Beans were not good hushpuppys were burnt to a crisp! I am a local so I was really looking forward to loving this place enough to keep going back unfortunately that was not the case at all!

May of been a bad time, but does not excuse quality of food. Chicken tasted old and the potato salad, green beans left much to be desired. Tasted pre-packaged and low quality. Bbq beans were decent as was fried okra. We threw the chicken away.

Called to place an order for pick-up, the girl answered the phone with a questioning hello; had me wondering if I had the right number. It took her a min to take my order, then informed me they were out of ribs. Having heard mixed reviews about this place and this being my first experience with them, I will not be a customer of theirs.

Some really good BBQ here! Especially after a nice day/drive through Cades Cove. The Brisket was nice and tasty with a beautiful smoke ring. The wings were absolutely delicious. The Tater Kegs were to die for and the baked beans were Top 3 I have ever had! I had the Smoke BBQ sauce which had really good flavor and heat to it. I would definitely recommend if you love some good BBQ.

Went on recommendation from some friends. We were not disappointed.Staff was a five star.Food a four..Why?Wife ordered brisket...she told the waitress the type of sauce.. they pour the sauce on the meat. We want to taste meat not sauce.I wanted a combo, beef, pork and ribs for one, they don't offer a combo plate of any. We did get blackberry cobbler, supper delicious!

It will come as no surprise to anyone who gets a whiff of this delicious restaurant on the outside that when you get on the inside the service is friendly, accurate and the food is amazing. Well I don't eat a lot of meat I enjoy great brisket and this place certainly passed that test. The brisket was moist and not overcooked. We asked for the sweet sauce and there is a little spicy but delicious. My wife enjoyed the pulled pork which was also enjoyed alongside the tangy sweet sauce. Of note, the coleslaw is not the sweet variety. It is more of the vinegar variety. Still delicious if that's what you like. Overall, this is a place that we will visit again. Excellent.

The food was not that good. The wait was way too long. The waitress was not nice at all. Was hoping for better for for the price we paid.

The staff was nice, the food was amazing and I overall had a good experience. You can tell that they put a lot of hard work into making ther costumers happy. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to a friend or family member.

I really wanted to like it. My girlfriend and I went in, and orderd beef brisket and sides. After 10 minutes we were told they only had 1 beef brisket so I said okay and switched to pork. Both meals came out as pork and at that point they had either messed up making the last one or given it to someone else. Pork came out very dry, My green beans are also in a cup of full water and tasted canned, the hush puppies were bland at best and really didn't offer much more than an onion flavor and don't get me started on the corn bites (canned corn fried in a batter with cheese)We will skip this next time we come down

This is the experience your local trendy BBQ joint is trying to replicate. Great pulled pork and peach cobbler. A must for anyone staying in Townsend after a busy day in the national park.

The food was ok, but our service was terrible. We had a small group and alot of our food came out cold. We had to hunt our waitress down a couple times for issues and the restuarant was mostly empty.

We always enjoy Smokin' Joe's -- the barbeque is great; the variety of sauces means there's something for everyone, and the sides are good, too. The stand-out situation is the consistently friendly and efficient service. We totally love the pulled pork and ribs; the tasty little corn niblets are great, the bbq beans aren't too spicy hot but *really* flavorful, and the fried pickles are great -- both sauces are wonderful. We love the hushpuppies, too! The cole slaw is OK -- it's good on a pulled pork sandwich, but just a little sweet on its own. And that brings us to the potato salad, the reason Smokin' Joe's only gets 4 stars from me. The tater salad is not good. It's sweet and mushy with chopped sweet pickles, while I prefer tangy and chunky. Adding a dollop of mustard improves it, but it does not fix it. Still, that's just one thing out of so many! You should try it for yourself!

The chopped bbq is great and there is a choice of sauces. Wonderful selection of sides...all delicious. I didn't order their cobbler, but it looked yummy. Atmosphere is welcoming and casual. A great place to eat. I'll be back for sure.

Had the brisket; it was marvelous. Good sauces. Restaurant does not accept AmEx but all other major cards ok. Wait staff was friendly and knowledgeable. Corn nuggets were tasty too. My companion had the ribs and said they were great. Solid choice and reasonable prices.

Great barbecue definitely hits the spot after tubing down the river. They also served fried green tomatoes.

First time here. One of the best pulled pork sandwiches I've ever eaten. Bring your appetite it's a big un. Service was excellent!

Poor service/management. We ordered pulled chicken to-go and when they brought pork, I politely said I‘m sorry, but we ordered chicken. After stepping away, she came back and told us the manager said we ordered pork and that is what we will get.

We got curbside delivery and a picnic pack with corn nuggets and potato salad. We also got some fried pickles. Everything was delicious!! And we had to wait very little for the nice lady to deliver it out the the car. So good!!!

I'm big on customer service. So I'll start with the negative. Twice we've didnt get utensils and napkins. Thats the only reason they only got 4 stars. Now the brisket. Was absolutely delicious...Bbq pork salad...wow the ranch dressing it came with was very tasty. Wings tender great taste great price these were8 those tiny barely any meat ...They were thick meaty tasty saucy wings. Honestly the missing utensils won't deter me. I'll just check my bags before I leave. I highly recommend this restaurant.

Everything at Smoking Joe's is wonderful home cooking. We've eaten there several times and have never been disappointed.

Chopped pork sandwich was as expected ..big and covered in sauce. Coleslaw good but prepackaged. Corn balls are frozen and fried as are the sweet potato fries and fried green tomatoes ..no salad bar tonight. Bathrooms are filthy and disgusting. Waitress said the owner is really busy with another business and hasn't had time to get to them. Serve beer only. Decent place but just average bar b que joint . Do I have to pay extra for the flies at the table or are they included in the price of the meal?

Absolutely terrible attitudes. I've never had such bad service. The business owner should be ashamed of their staff.

I'd leave maybe half a star if I could. My boyfriend and I went here to get a small bite to eat, all we ordered was ONE sandwich and 3 sides (I wasn't very hungry) and after waiting for more than 45 minutes and seeing 3 groups who had been seated after us, ordered more than us, got their food and LEFT before us and all we'd been served was some VERY sugary water with a slight lemon taste to it in lieu of lemonade. 10/10, would NOT recommend.

Food was good. Meat needed more smoke and was too moist. Coleslaw and baked beans tasted like they were from a can/jar. Service was great - very quick to fill our order. It appears as if only recently reopened after COVID, so I’ll cut them some slack on the food quality and will definitely try them again next time I’m in town.

Terrible experience!! covid curbside only - phone staff very rude, staff and management don’t know what ingredients are in their foods, spent $50+ to Have to send back 4 sides (all fries) for allergy reasons (which we asked about when we ordered and were advised incorrectly) we were refunded $4 ... we were also charged extra on our whole receipt without prior advisement since we paid with a card instead of cash (which in the past has been illegal- I am not sure on current laws) the waitress was wonderful and sweet and felt terrible about the allergy situation. If you have any food allergies or sensitivities I would caution you, eat at your own risk. The food we got was average.

Seriously delicious bbq!! We were blown away by the flavor, quality, portions size, and authenticity. The owner smokes the meat daily, so you can always expect consistent amazing quality. We absolutely loved the Hog Fries - they are to die for. Highly recommended!!

Pork BBQ plate with potato salad and okra. Okra and potato salad excellent but BBQ was very dry. Got 1 tiny souffle/portion cup of sauce with order, which was not nearly enough to even moisten the meat. But when I asked for another portion of sauce, waitress said kitchen said I would have to pay extra for it. Huh?? So not good!! Surely customer good will is worth a couple tablespoons of BBQ sauce.

You will never go wrong eating BBQ at Smokin Joe's! The sweet potato fries make a delicious dessert. They will definitely satisfy your sweet tooth!

Great food, great service, and a family atmosphere.

We had lunch here and we order the Big Joe. I asked for more bbq sauce ( It was very dry) and was told I had to pay for it... not very good service. Wont be going back anytime soon.

Had the half chicken with fried okra, potato salad. Place was clean, service good and food delicious with large proportion. I got the mild, sweet and tangy bbq sauce and it was great. Some of the best i have in a while. The okra was just right. Had blueberry pie alamode and it was good also. Would recommend this place.

Have eaten here twice, both time my husband and I shared the ribs and added an extra side. Ribs literally fall off the bone and the Tennessee beans are my favorite

Great place for ribs: meaty and full of flavor, even without the BBQ sauce. We ordered the ribs for two and ended up bringing home over half the meat! Very generous portions. Baked beans and and green beans were tasty. Cole slaw had a bit too much vinegar for my taste, but otherwise it was very good. And the blackberry cobbler, which we brought home, was scrumptious, especially heated with some ice cream. Definitely a return stop is in order when we're in the area again!

My family has eaten here for years and it's Great every time ! They smoke their own meat, so it'a always fresh, and they make the best Mustard BBQ sauce !You gotta stop here if you're going thru Townsend.

This place is awesome! Food is great, Our server was super nice and everyone is very friendly. Good atmosphere, very homey! Will definitely be making a stop here again! Our favorite was the fried Mac and cheese appetizer, so good.
